Vacation request letter

Dear Boss

I am writing to request a 3 days off, starting from 14 – 16 Aug. It’s almost years when I haven’t got a complete time-off for myself and my fami.

Since the last 33 months, started when I took this job, I felt that you have given me too much pressure both in and out of working time. I thought about ways of making you feel assured, making you get better, feel alright, and be happier all the time that I really got so stressful. So many times you asked me to do the job even though it’s in the middle of the night, and after that I could not get back to sleep. That really affected my physical health and my mind. I felt really exhausted.

As you know, I am a hard-worker and a dedicated employee. I just want you to know that I always keep in my mind that “your success is my success, and your happiness is my happiness”. But you must also know that, keeping myself refreshed and relaxed is also a good way in order to help me support you much better.

I hope you will accept this vacation request with no hard feeling.

For your routine tasks, you can reach out to Mrs Tam (who is your Nanny).

In case of any emergency, you can reach out to my Parents (who is your Grandparents)

Sincerely yours,

Love truly, deeply, whole-heartedly, completely

Father

This is my Boss, and next to Him is my life-long partner

Suicide Squad review – Spoiler alert!

Suicide-Squad-Poster.jpg

Just watched this movie, and frankly speaking, the film has not come up to my expectation, only rated 3/5. It’s not as crazy and full of action scenes as I expected.

For me, I think the plot really had a big problem, it’s not logical, shallow and too many characters in which 130 minutes cannot make clear all of their story, motivation, talent and craziness…Too many characters can be taken out of the movie, and the story still goes the same un-changed. Below is my 2cent.

The only plus point, that worth watching in this movie, for me, it’s the starring of Will Smith and Margot Robbie. Wiola Davis has a great character in this movie. Jared Leto is used as a hook in order to drive fans into the movie but failed to perform as his character is so plain…I don’t feel any fear or eagerness to watch the Joker played by him, way too far to compare to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Cannot say that his starring is good or bad because his character is so …irrelevant and meaningless…Taking off Joker then you’ll find the plot might be more interesting.

Talking about Will Smith, in this film, again, you will see his charisma. He played his usual type of character, the guy who seems to be careless from the outside, but has a big heart from the inside for his family, the guy who people might hate him in the beginning, but cannot take their eyes off him, and finally, when he decides to do the right thing, then people love him. Only Will Smith can do this, it’s just his natural talent, natural charisma. As stated initially, because the film does not have enough timing for the stories of each character to be described more carefully. All you can find out is Deadshot is a killer for money, and he never misses any shot. But he has his principle, he never shot women and children and he loves his daughter more than anything else in the world. This is his weakness and also his motivation in order to make decision to save the world later. I can say that, Deadshot is the only character that I look forward to seeing his up-coming story to be told separately.

About Margot Robbie, can say that she has fulfilled her role in this movie, a sexy plot, a feminine role in a squad, and a little romance in the action movie. That’s all she can do well. But for the role Harley Quinn, I like the character, but it’s not deep enough. In the movie, the Director tried to insert the Joker in order to explain about Harley Quinn’s craziness. But throughout the film, her craziness is not clearly shown, just some boring plot line.

For Wiola Davis, in this film, her role is Amanda Waller, just like Nick Fury in The Avengers, but more heartless, more calculative, even more cruel. She’s a go-getter, she wants something and she’ll find way to get it. And when something, someone is no good for her then she easily get rid of that thing or person. She adds the element of craziness and cruelity to the movie about the team of Badass and Crazy people, which she is not in the team, she initiated the team.

For the rest Squad members, Captain Boomerang, The Joker, Killer Croc, El Diablo…are so boring to me. I can say that, poor characters, normal acting, nothing outstanding. You can just take one of these character out of the story and it remains the same. For Entranchess and team leader Nick Flag, I think it’s a wrong choice from the casting, they don’t have what the characters need, the villain does not have the villain look, even the motivation to destroy the world and where is the origin of her strength. The team leader does not have the kind of charisma, he is very unlike Will smith, and is so far away compared with the leader in team The Avengers – Captain America

And one minus point about this movie is the fighting scenes is so simple, so boring when compared with other blockbusters. The ending fight is much more disappointed. For this one, I guess it will depend on the Director choice, so I will not talk about this.

In the end of the movie, we saw that Joker successfully rescued Harley Quinn, and then another scene between Batman and Amanda Waller. Batman got all the Suicide Squad profile and tell Waller to stop the program…So far, the DC Comics is quite behind the Marvel team after their 3 movies released. I guess they must have a long way to go.

We’ll see what’s next…

Quotes inspired me

1. Steve Jobs said about the principle of life, it’s very simple, we can do much better than just have a good job, monthly salary, buy a house, a car then a bigger house, a bigger car. We can add more value to life, we can build our own things that people can use. We can achieve the dream and the life we want. When I felt that I was down, I always read this quote again and it inspired me

2. Another quote from this great physicist and philosopher that quite similar to this quote is “if you want to live a happy life, tie it to a GOAL, not THINGs”. it’s so true! In life, we always see that people are striving, working so hard in order to have a bigger house with a pool, a faster and more luxurious car, branded clothes…etc They are all things. And if you notice, those things won’t make you happy, they just make your life easier for a very short moment. Just recall back the time when things really bring you happiness? It’s very short, like, when I did not have a car, I wished to have one, when I had one, I felt normal, I wanted a more expensive one, and when I had the one I wanted, then I felt normal again, I continue to crave for another more expensive car…It did not give me peace of mind, just gave me more confusion. That’s the same with your job, if you are trying so hard, just to get promotion then once you achieved your promotion, you will feel happy for a little while, but it will be very short, and then you are craving again for a higher position. But if you tie your life to a goal, a higher purpose, that is to add value to the people around you…then whatever you do, even if a small thing that can bring happiness for your family also makes you happy too. You spend time reading and playing with you son, you see him smile then you feel happy. It’s that simple thing that called happiness…

3. This is an excellent speech from Al Pacino (leading actor) in the movie Any Given Sunday. I totally amazed with the meaning of this speech…Life is all about a game of inches…If everyday, at every moment, and at everything you are doing, you add in one inches of dedication, of effort, of concentration to that, then I am sure, for whatever you do, you will be successful…

4. This is the life principle of Rocky Balboa (I am sure everyone is familiar with this Rocky serial movies :))), he taught his Son to handle life. It’s all about survival, it’s all about having the perseverance to take punches hit your head while still have the courage to keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!

5. If you have talent, and do not work hard to make it become your skill, then your chance of success if not high. But if your talent is average, but you work so hard that nobody can compare to you, sooner or later, you will surely beat anyone else in your league.  Will Smith and many others talented + working hard people have shared their working principle and I am following their paths ;))

6. Last quote from Bruce Lee is about focus. You are talented, you work hard, but if you spend your time and energy on too many battles then you might not get to where you want. So stay focus, practice one kick, step by step, then one day you will be the Master

The Alchemist

the_alchemist_by_rektruk.jpg

I just finished this book for the 3rd time

Each time I read it, I learn and understand deeper about the value and meaning of the book

The important thing is listen to your heart, realize your dream and have the gut to follow through your dream. It’s a life that’s worth living. It’s a destiny that we are born to fulfill.

Searched and I found a very nice review about this book, with 13 lessons learnt. I saw that it’s pretty enough and decided not to write again but post that review here on my site

13 Lessons I’ve Learned From Paulo Coheleo’s Book “The Alchemist”

Pls read and if you haven’t read this book, you’d better get it quick.

It’s never too late to realize what you dream of, but it’s better to realize at the age of 20s, 30s rather than at an older age ;))

Make life simple

When I was in my 20s, I always admired the guys who said things in which people do not understand. I thought it was cool to say big things that I doubted whether they even could understand what they said. And I think it changed now, in my 30s, the more I experienced life, the more struggles and failures I’ve been through, the more people and problems that I’ve met…I knew that life should be and can be simple.

Simplicity can bring you less stress, more happiness, clearer in your thinking which eventually lead to better action and behavior. It’s obvious that we always feel confusing when we have choices…I go to the supermarket, I want to buy coffee and there are more than 10 brands, all stated that they are “coffee authentic and have the best taste”, what should I do? I look them up, I compare, I consider about the brand, the packing, the price, the promotion, the ingredients, the producers…etc of at least 3 brands, that makes my life suck. Life can be much simple, why complicated? And it happens the same with our emotion, I miss someone, I am afraid to call that person because I think she will mis-jusde me, she will think that I am to quick, or she might reject me because she is in another relationship, or she dislike me, or she is busy and maybe if I call then I am disturbing her…etc, why so serious, if you want to call, just make a call, then we’ll see what happen next, why bother to think of so many scenarios…

Another examples can be stated here, successful people always make things as simple as they can, like Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, if you notice, then you find out that their outfits are always the same everyday and everytime they show up in front of the media, because they don’t want to waste time on choosing what to wear today, what to eat today, what to do today, they know exactly what they will wear, will eat, will do…And that is simplicity.

A few days ago, I’ve read a blog about minimalism, and I think it’s a great concept. I am not looking for more information, maybe I can follow that lifestyle which for sure will make my life much less stressful and more happy. Here I noted down some quotes to always remind myself about living simply.

Be pro-active

you-must-be-the-change-you-want-to-see-in-the-world

This quote in the picture is from Mahatma Gandhi, stated that we must be pro-active to take the initial step, to change your behavior, your action toward others, the way you would like to be treated. You must learn to give before you get, listen before you be heard, love before you are loved…

“Be pro-active” is also the second habit in the book: ‘7 habits of highly effective people’ – Stephen R.Covey. I had a chance to get to know this book since 8 years ago, when I worked in Unilever, they had a training about this book. It blew me away, I started to like reading book since that moment on.

Getting back to the topic I wanted to write – being pro-active. Today I felt great, I am sure that because I had a different attitude today, I was more pro-active today. I listened more, I tried to be more attentive, even tried to ask for more jobs to do…which finally made my mood getting much better…

But it’s not the first time I felt ‘up’ like this, it always happened for a few days and then I would feel ‘down’ for the next few days, the question is “how long can I maintain this feeling?”. I don’t know, but I will try to change my attitude like I am today, and make it become a habit. Maybe, after that, my life will be all ‘up’.

Let’s try to make “being pro-active” a habit!

The demolition (2015)

demolition-600x812.jpg

Jake Gyllenhaal is always my top-choice actor for a character which has introverted and complex personality. In this movie, “Demolition”, he did well, carried the whole movie through though the storyline is very slow, some parts ambiguous and some parts predictable.

His character is Davis, a successful financial guy who made a huge sum of money. One day, his wife drove him and they argued about his carelessness toward their family. Suddenly, the car had an accident and she died, while he got away without a scratch. At her funeral, he did not feel hurt, he could not cry, he just felt empty which made he thought that he did not love her. He bought a M&M chocolate on a vending machine in the hospital, but failed cuz’ the candy was stuck in the machine. He decided to write a complaint to the vending machine company about the case, and also, put on some lines to tell about his personal struggles. After the fourth complaint letter, he got response from the Customer service department, named Karen. She asked whether he’s ok, did he have someone to talk to…And after some letters exchanged, they finally met on a train, and Davis came to her house, where she lived with her boyfriend…And a pure friendship – relationship among the two established. They shared to each other the burden they are carrying with their personal lives.

Davis always remembered what his father-in-law told him “Repairing the human heart is like repairing an automobile. You have to take everything apart, examine everything, then you can put it all back together”. He became obsessed with everything that is flaw around him, the leaking-water refrigerator, the office toilet door, his furniture…etc. He began to act weird and mis-behave toward his father in law and his colleagues. He tried to take everything apart, into piece by piece just to see where was wrong. But he never figured out anything, and the pieces of memory of his wife always came back to his mind.

011.jpg

One day, he decided to demolish his house, with the help of Karen’s son, who has become his best friend during his tough time. And he found out the ultrasound of a baby, which his Wife never told him before.

On the memorial day of his Wife, he appeared and asked her parents in law why. They said that it was not his son, and the Mother had taken her for abortion. He was shocked, came back to Karen’s house just to find out her boyfriend had came back home. And he gave him a hard beat. At the same time, Karen’s son was also got beaten by 6 other boys.

The movie end with the part that Davis came to realize that he was wrong, that he did really love his Wife, and all the memories came back that made him cry. And he, together with the Father in law, had repaired a carousel in memory of his Wife. The film ended with the message from Karen’s boy sent to Davis, told him to come to the river to see the demolition of many buildings by the riverside. It seemed that he had taken his emotion, his feeling, his life back by setting everything apart.

———-

I don’t know if writing the plot summary again made any sense, but I feel that I understood his emotion, his situation. This movie stroke cuz in the meantime, I feel just like him. I thought I lost my cool, my passion, my motives, maybe I need to break things apart just to find myself back, just to find out what is really important to me…

Self-mastery

The-Mind.png

Sometimes I had a feeling that I can control my mind to think and to behave whatever is right, whatever I want. But sometimes, the boredom, the emptiness, the loneliness still fill my mind up. I felt like I didn’t know what I am doing, where I am going, what is my motivation, what I am trying for, what do I want in life, who are the people that surrounding me… everything caused me with great confusion.

That’s when I realize that I have not mastered my mind perfectly, there are still many holes and my mind always takes its chance to fight back against me.

Anyways, I know that I am not perfect and still trying to be better everyday. I am learning to control my mind better every single minute of the day.

I am more mindful about my breath, about what I am being, what I am doing, for example…when I breath, I remind myself when I inhale & exhale, when I walk, I watch my steps, when I drink water, I notice how sweet is the water is, when I eat, I try to realize the whole taste of the food I eat, whether it’s sweet, it’s sour, it’s bitter, it’s salty…etc. Be present, be mindfulness is the method that I am choosing in order to master my mind.

I am not there yet, but i’ll never quit on the path to self-mastery

Keep going ;))
